The vehicle axle counter system normally consists
of a metal base secured at the road level surface upon which the vehicles
travel. Commercially known as "AXLE-COUNTING STRIP",
this base may contain from one to four contact strips which, mounted
by pressure or glued into their respective housing channels, determine
the closure sequence of itself, therefore, the direction of travel
of the vehicles and the number of axles.
| The fitting system normally used
is shown in diagrams related, although counting systems are also made
with fewer than four contacts. The strips can also be fitted for the
individual passage, and therefore classification, of vehicles.
